Depression,
addiction and anxiety are diseases that afflict
almost as many people as heart disease but most
sufferers never get help.
One
in every ten Nova Scotians suffers from addiction.
Two-thirds
never seek treatment. Many are too afraid of what family, employers
or friends will think. Some are determined to tough it out alone,
while others simply don't know where to turn. The individual with it cannot stop using without treatment.
4000-8000
Nova Scotians have gambling problems. Approximately
1/3 of these people are addicted. 73%
of addicts and alcoholics are in the workplace and
hold jobs. About
one in five Canadian workers drinks at some time
in the workplace, and fewer than 1% report ever
using illicit drugs at work. When
an individual’s use becomes apparent at the
work place that individual has been ADDICTED for
10 years.
